With clear skies and shining sun, the first pitch of the 66th annual East Hampton Artists & Writers Celebrity Softball Game was thrown at 2 p.m., after about two hours of batting practice at Herrick Park in East Hampton.

In its sixty-sixth year, this charity softball game has become the longest continuing tradition on the East End. This year, Police Commissioner and Umpire Ray Kelly, Matt Lauer, Peter Borish, Mike Lupica, Ann Liguori, and Ed Burns were among participants. The game entertains spectators on various levels including true sports fans, philanthropists, and the foodies. The game benefits local charities that provide vital human services to our area, including East End Hospice, Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center, Phoenix House Academy of Long Island, and The Retreat.

Families congregated around the field in support of the causes. They sipped on snapples and enjoyed freshly grilled burgers and hot dogs. To finish off the classic ball game lunch, families ate delicious Joe & Liza's ice cream. The game was a massive success and a sure sign of the continued success this wonderful tradition will enjoy in years to come. In the end, the artists took home bragging rights with a final score of 14 to 8.
