December is a great time to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean, right? Most might think absolutely not, but hundreds in the Hamptons are willing to brave the cold, for a good cause of course. You can be one of the fearless who does during the Human Resources of the Hamptons' (HRH) 10th Annual Polar Bear Plunge on Saturday, December 14th at 10 a.m. The United States Marine Core is also pledging to take the Plunge this year, which is held at Cooper's Beach in Southampton Village.

While some enjoy the daring dip, those who really benefit are the local families that rely on HRH's Food Pantry to survive. They assist more than 6000 people per year, so each donation is greatly appreciated. 411 people jumped into the Atlantic during last year's plunge, and raised $77,000, which went towards food, emergency fuel and utilities, medical transportation, school supplies, home repairs, and more. This year the Human Resources of the Hamptons hopes to raise $100,000.

Participants must raise a minimum of $25 for registration, which is the day of the Plunge in the Pavilion at Cooper's Beach. During registration, plungers will turn in their donations and sign a waiver. All plungers receive a free Polar Bear Plunge 2013 hat. Make sure you arrive before 9:30 a.m. to enter and the Plunge starts at 10 a.m. sharp.

HRH encourages plungers to add to the entertainment by coming in costume. The past couple years have had some pretty memorable outfits including Santa, elves, the band members of Kiss, snowmen, Batman, Robin, mermaids, pirates, chickens, and vikings.

If you can't make it to the Plunge, watch it live on the Hamptons.com Beach Cam: www.hamptons.com
