Yes, poverty exists even in the affluent paradise we call the Hamptons, but thanks to Maureen's Haven and corporate sponsors like Rechler Equity Partners there is shelter from the storm of homelessness.

Last week Maureen's Haven held its annual Lobster Bash fundraiser at Dockers Waterside in East Quogue, one of the Hampton's most beautiful bay front restaurants. Rechler Equity Partners, Long Island's largest commercial real estate company and the developer of The Hampton Business District at Gabreski, offered their generous support as the Presenting Sponsor.

Among the several hundred supporters of Maureen's Haven attending the event were this year's honorary chairs, renowned television actress Susan Lucci and her son, Andreas Huber, entrepreneur and founder of Locality Media. Celebrating its 11th anniversary, Maureen's Haven provides shelter, meals, and vocational and educational training to homeless adults and families throughout the North and South Forks. More than just a shelter, the Maureen's Haven commitment to providing vocational and educational training translates to the old adage of "give a man a fish he eats for a day; give a man a fishing pole (and teach him how to fish) and he eats for the rest of his life."

What could be more appropriate and magnanimous than that Long Island's largest commercial realtor should offer their support to this outstanding organization serving those with no real estate at all by underwriting the cost of the event? Bravo Rechler!

As Maureen's Haven Executive Director Tracey Lutz noted, "We are so grateful for the support of Rechler Equity Partners for underwriting the costs involved in mounting this fundraiser. Their generosity allows the proceeds that were raised to directly benefit our shelter programs and day center." Serving as Lobster Bash event chairs were Ellen Cea, Rechler Equity Partners' Director of Tenant and Community Development at The Hampton Business District, and Joyce Skarka, Founder and President of Inspired Marketing Strategies.

The stunningly beautiful and very, very metropolitan Susan Lucci might have been a bit out of her element at the Country Western style event, but her support was profound as acknowledged by Lutz, "I also want to express my sincere thanks to Susan Lucci and Andreas Huber for giving of their time and adding their star power to this memorable, special evening."

Performing at this year's fund raiser were Stagecoach Junction, The Jessie Lee Roth Band, and DJ Deuce. To say the least, everyone was on their feet with many in cowboy boots and Western attire.

A great cause supported by a great corporate sponsor, Maureen's Haven in partnership with Rechler Equity Partners brings the East End closer to eliminating homelessness in this island paradise we call the Hamptons.
