PBMC Receives Highest Award In General Surgery

Riverhead - Peconic Bay Medical Center (PBMC) has been selected as the recipient of the 2010 General Surgery Excellence Award by HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings organization. This designation - the highest available - places PBMC among the top 10 percent of hospitals in the nation for general surgery.

Coming just six months after PBMC unveiled its new, state-of-the-art surgical pavilion, the Kanas Center for Advanced Surgery, the Medical Center is committed to offering the most advanced technology and patient safety to the communities it serves.

"We could not be more pleased by this honor," said Andrew Mitchell, PBMC president and CEO. "Earlier this year, we opened the Kanas Center - a surgical pavilion of unparalleled design and medical technology in Suffolk County - and we've already achieved the highest rating available in the industry."

Matched only by the superior skills and expertise of the Medical Center's surgical staff, the new surgical pavilion has brought surgeons and hospital administrators from around the world to see what PBMC has done right here in Riverhead.

"We set out to build 'tomorrow's medical center, today,' and we've done it," Mitchell added.

HealthGrades, the leading independent healthcare ratings organization in the nation, provides quality ratings, profiles and cost information on the nation's hospitals, physicians, nursing homes and prescription drugs.

Located in Riverhead, PMBC is a non-profit, 182-bed medical facility. Home to a 60-bed Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Peconic Bay Homehealth Services and the Richard Rubenstein, MD, Center for Bariatric Surgery, PBMC is also a regional provider of orthopedics through the Hamptons Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Institute. A unique partnership with Stony Brook University Hospital - Long Island's only academic medical center - provides trauma specialists in PBMC's Emergency Center as well as highly-trained physicians in its Center for Advanced Medical Imaging (CAMI).
