Getting around Montauk is about to get a lot easier.
The Free Ride (TFR), which was founded by James Mirras and Alex Esposito – who are both East End natives, is launching “The Free Ride” app in “The End” over Memorial Day weekend, meaning passengers will now not only be able to get to the beach using TFR, but they’ll also be able to live request a ride to and from wherever they’re heading.
The Free Ride, which is entering its eighth season, originally launched as the Hamptons Free Ride, but utilizing complimentary electric cars to alleviate parking nightmares was so popular with users that eventually it expanded to four states and 16 cities – leading to a name change. TFR is able to offer the national, green, micro transit service at no cost thanks to advertisers and partnerships with municipalities.
“It’s been really exciting to see the service evolve and grow over the years,” Mirras shared.
Eventually, TFR plans to continue to expand the app’s reach, which is already available in San Diego, Long Beach and Palm Beach, nationally. The company expects to roll out the app to its Southampton and East Hampton users later this summer.
“We’re especially excited to bring some of the features that have worked in our other cities to our hometown,” Mirras added.
