Art world doyenne
Posy Chisolm Feick threw open the doors of her Turtle Bay aerie on Tuesday, September 20th, to welcome old friend Oscar winning director
Norman Jewison to town. One could practically hear the strains of "Oh Canada" in the background as the pair of Toronto natives greeted each other warmly with big hugs and kisses.
Posy, always an elegant and unflappable hostess, in New York for the launch of Paris-based artist
Marc Ash's Tous Ensemble collection, had only heard a week before that her friend of over four decades would be in New York for a brief visit to promote his autobiography, "This Terrible Business Has Been Good To Me". Marshalling her not so inconsiderable network - she is director of The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice -
Posy filled her drawing room to overflowing with his friends and fans, a delightful mix of art and commerce.
Composer
Sheldon Harnick with his wife
Margery and legendary PR guru
Lois Smith came early to get some private time with
Norman who had directed the film version of Harnick's "Fiddler on the Roof". More than thirty years later,
Harnick and
Jewison were still good naturedly arguing over script cuts.
The always sunny
Jewison cheerfully inscribed books for the likes of
Margaret Whiting,
Jack Wrangler,
Eileen and
Donald Eckstract,
Susan Hill,
Beverly Camhe,
Ula and
Elliott Howard,
Fred and
Carole Guest,
Maria Cooper and
Bryan Janis,
Annette Insdorf,
Jeffrey Altshuler,
Mary Belknap,
Asher Remy Toledo and
Mark Roth,
Marc Ash,
Nina and
Bill Judson, and
Inger Witter.
Thanks to the beautiful late summer weather, guests were able to stroll
Posy's terrace with its river-to-river views. Author
Louis Begley (About Schmidt) and wife
Anka chatted with
Ruth Appelhof, Executive Director of Guild Hall of East Hampton, while admiring the views and sampling savory seafood treats from caterers
Robbins-Wolfe.

Jeffrey Altschuler, Susan Hill, and Norman Jewison. |
Throughout the evening,
Jewison regaled the guests with his behind the scenes stories on the making of several of his memorable films such as "In The Heat of The Night", "The Thomas Crown Affair", "The Russian are Coming! The Russians are Coming!", and "Moonstruck".
He also paid tribute to the late film critic,
Jay Scott, who elevated film criticism to a high art. It was
Scott's encouragement that prodded him to look back at his life. Quoting Socrates he said, "a life unexamined is a life not having lived". With that, he laughingly told the assemblage, "All of you should write a book".
Before heading off with the new lady in his life,
Lynne St. David to the "21" for a late night supper, he noted how thrilled he was to be teaming up with former "Moonstruck" collaborator
John Patrick Shanley, for another delightful romp entitled "Bread & Tulips".
Shanley, Broadway's golden boy with a Tony and Pulitzer Prize for "Doubt", penned the forward to Norman's book.
INTERMIX opened their New York Flagship store on Wednesday, September 28th, and celebrated in style with
Liv Tyler,
Alexandra Richards, and
Theodora Richards serving as gracious hostesses. Revelers gathered to enjoy cocktails and browse the wares. We spied these secret shoppers -
Sari Sloane,
Alvin Valley,
Alexandra Lind Rose,
Lauren Davis,
Emilia Fanjul Pfeifler,
Fabiola Beracasa,
Fabian Basabe,
Cristina Greeven Cuomo,
Khajak Keledjian,
Callae Brownstein, and
Jamie LeFrak.
With
Philip Seymour Hoffman in the starring role, a party was held to celebrate
Truman Capote's Birthday Anniversary as well as the opening of the film "Capote" this past Friday night at KUSH in Manhattan. A sexy and romantic wine bar & lounge with candles, olives a-plenty, and a distinctly Middle Eastern atmosphere, KUSH hosted the party with
Philip Seymour Hoffman,
Monika Osborne,
Mark Osborne, and
Bennett Miller in attendance.

The Concours D'Elegance Cocktail Party and Elegant Car Show was held at Wollman Rink in Central Park on Friday, September 30th with
Anne Hathaway,
Raffaello Follieri,
Susan Shin,
Bill Kapfer,
Maggie Norris,
Emma Snowdon-Jones, and
Mark Langrish enjoying the views.
John and
Andrea Stark had a few friends over to their new penthouse in the Excelsior on East 57th Street. The stunning apartment designed by
Jeffrey Bilhuber graces the cover of House & Garden's October issue and the cocktail party was co-hosted by the magazine's Editor
Dominique Browning. The stylish guestlist included
Amy Fine Collins,
Dennis Basso,
Michael Cominotto,
Debbie Bancroft,
Rachel Hovnanian and
Mark Gilbertson,
Melissa Barrett Rhodes,
Tatiana and
Campion Platt,
Susan Egan and
Joseph Lagani,
Cynthia and
Dan Lufkin,

Carlos Souza. Peach vodka drinks and hors d'oeuvres were passed throughout the elegantly appointed room.
Finally to wrap up the busy weekend, the Jewish Life Festival was held at the Chabad on Washington Square. This day of tradition, culture and fun and included a live performance by the critically acclaimed Hasidic reggae superstar,
Matisyahu, who has sold out venues such as Joe's Pub, Mercury Lounge and the Knitting Factory. There were hands-on mitzvah workshops including "Make Your Own Yarmulke" and "Shabbat Candle Decorating". A Kosher food Marketplace was available, as well as a Judaica Bazaar and an extensive information center. Mazel Tov!
