Wyland Gallery Opens In Sayville
 |
"Abstract Hudson Valley" by Angelo Franco |
Four world-renowned artists will help celebrate the Grand Opening of the Wyland Galleries in Sayville. James Coleman, Jim Warren, Walfrido Garcia, and Angelo Franco will be at the gallery to paint and meet their fans on Nov. 17 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Nov. 18 from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
Wyland is internationally known for his "Whaling Walls" and will complete his 100th Wall in Bejiing before the Olympics. He was recently selected as the Official Artist of the U.S. Olympic Team and has created four pieces to help support the Team. A percentage of all retail sales of these pieces will be donated directly to the U.S. Olympic Team. He is currently on tour with the Wyland Foundation teaching (especially children) how important it is to save the waters and the animals that live in and around them.
About the Artists:
James Coleman worked for Disney for over 22 years and was their chief background animation artist for "Beauty and the Beast", "The Little Mermaid", "Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too", and the "Fox and the Hound". He now brings his fine art to Sayville.
Walfrido Garcia resides in Hawaii and paints breath-taking vistas of Hawaiian waters, caves, and lava flows. He will be busy at his easel during the show creating new masterpieces. Walfrido's pieces are sought-after by collectors throughout the world.
Jim Warren has won a Grammy for his album cover of Bob Seager's "Running Against the Wind" and has become famous for his surrealistic paintings and whimsical scenes. In "Incorporating Fantasy with Reality", Jim weaves stories with colors and brush strokes on a piece of canvas.
Angelo Franco comes to Wyland Galleries from Poughkeepsie, New York and is one of the finest abstract artists in the area. His original oils use dabs of his brush to draw you into a peaceful world of tranquility and blended colors. As you back away, the subject becomes recognizable, whether it is a floral bouquet or a beautiful scene of the Hudson River in the spring.
Event Highlights:
Special guest, Darlene Wyland, of the Wyland Foundation will bring her enthusiasm and information on the work of the Wyland Foundation, founded by her son fifteen years ago. Long Island is surrounded by water that needs to be cleaned and preserved. Wyland says, '"If there are no whales there will be no people." The Foundation contributes to many water conservation groups and runs its own programs throughout the world including sponsoring the 100 "Whaling Walls".
"We are so excited to be able to bring these fine artists to Sayville!" exclaims Louise Gritmon, Director of Wyland Galleries. "Long Island is surrounded by water that needs to be cleaned and preserved." Wyland says "one person can make a difference" and that is exactly what he is doing with his life. Each of us can do something every day to conserve water, something as easy as not letting the water run when you brush your teeth can make an awesome impact on the environment.
