Coming to the Hamptons: Rebecca Kordecki CPT, LMT

With summer officially drawing to a close, you may find your kids (or yourself!) increasingly stuck indoors, in front of the TV. Coupled with the upcoming holidays, inactivity can invariably lead to weight gain. Childhood obesity is an ever-increasing issue in America, with our kids leading more sedentary and, consequently, heavier lives. So, instead of waiting and watching the pounds pile on, why not do something proactive - and fun! - for your kid's health and well-being.

Rebecca Kordecki, personal trainer to the stars, who has worked with the likes of Raquel Welch, Hunter Tylo, Jim Belushi, Oliver Stone, Rick Fox, The "Rock", Scott Wolff, Elijah Wood, and Tom Arnold, is making the move out to the Hamptons and she's bringing her Gettin' the Boot fitness boot camp with her! "My goal is to have a location in the Hamptons within the next few months," said Ms. Kordecki.

"I have done boot camp classes for adults for the last few years. Recently, I felt that it was time for me to do something for kids and to educate - and hopefully inspire - them to take more control of their health in a fun environment."

Gettin' the Boot is a 2.5 hour fitness boot camp for kids that includes fun and informative games, activities, sports, light exercise and yoga. For example, "Pin the Tail on the Healthy Meal" is a game invented by Ms. Kordecki to help kids to select healthy, beneficial foods. "It's played the same way as Pin the Tail on the Donkey, but instead of looking for a donkey to pin a tail on, kids choose a healthy meal out of several options presented to them," she explained.

Ms. Kordecki also ends her program with a "Circle Chat" that allows children to ask health-related questions or to share stories about how food and exercise affects their lives. "The idea is to find ways through games and interactive teaching to increase the kids' awareness about health and exercise. Gettin' The Boot is really meant to be an adjunct to what parents and schools are already teaching the kids." (All of the work-outs in the Gettin' the Boot program are age-appropriate.)

Ms. Kordecki still works with adults, however. She is a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and a Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), offering massage therapy, personal training and home gym design/consulting services.

"Fourteen years ago, my whole sales department was given pink slips and severance packages when the company closed," said Ms. Kordecki. "I had to figure out what to do next so I thought back to the last year at my company to the one thing I had been doing that made me happy - coaching co-workers about diet and exercise just from things I was learning on my own - and I had a feeling that was the ticket." She used the money from her severance package and put it towards massage and training certification programs. Shortly thereafter, Ms. Kordecki opened her own company, Mobile Fitness. "My career has been fulfilling on so many levels," she stated.

"While I have launched a new company, MobileFIT Solutions, which focuses on ways to reach the masses to educate and inspire about health and fitness, I'm still maintaining clientele in both massage therapy and personal training," said Ms. Kordecki.

Looking for a personal trainer of your own? "Get referrals or testimonials and make sure that you are hiring someone you could learn from or be motivated by," suggests Ms. Kordecki. "I think the worst thing a person can do is hire someone they don't feel inspired by or someone whose knowledge they don't respect." She also recommends you do your homework by making sure your trainer is certified by a reputable organization. "If all checks out and you feel yourself "click", go for it!"

As for making the move out East, Ms. Kordecki is thrilled. "I feel very blessed to have moved to a new area where in last six months I have been so well received. I look forward to working with many people here, young and old, to share the gift I believe I have in the area of health and fitness," Ms. Kordecki concluded.
