This past Father's Day weekend we invited a host of close friends to our home for the weekend. Dean Norman and Brey Williams, who came for the weekend with their wives, are from North Carolina and we have the most hilarious time together. Judith Reagan and Bethenny Frankel, two more guests, loved them too and we had so much fun at Trata East and Nello's on Saturday night after dinner and drinks.
Bobby's children came out for Father's Day and invited more friends over. Bethenny helped cook and our friend and caterer Howie, from Creative Cuisine in New Hyde Park, came out with his son and brought tons of food. He finished the cooking and we ate like kings. What a wonderful day for Bobby. We had to go back to NYC Sunday night to prepare for the week to come.

I spent most of the day on Monday getting ready for the Samsung Hope Gala. The people from Samsung invited me as a guest and offered to donate $2,500 to my favorite charity, CreakyJoints.org, and we plan to give it Dr. Lehman's Fund at HSS to help children with arthritis. I wore a Zang Toi Dress and my favorite Tiret Watch with a red band this time and I never looked or felt better. Earlier in the day I had my hair done by Valery Joseph Salon on Madison. He put my hair up. (What do you think? I like it up but Bobby has mixed feelings. I would love your comments).
I am also working on my own make-up line. I can never find the correct colors for my skin and my girlfriend, who has been in the business for 25 years, has been making me some special colors and formulas. If I like them all, I might start to put a line together. If you think you would be interested in a Jill Zarin Beauty Line, let me know. I wore the prototypes to this event. What do you think?
The benefit of being a VIP guest was a fab gift bag. We got a new Samsung Camera. Love it! Ok, really, so the best part of the night? The older sister of a girl I grew up with came over to me. She didn't think I would remember her and I did in one second. She is a lovely warm lady who I remember as always being nice. Sadly, her younger sister did not exude the warmth that she has. Her sister was one of the mean girls I remember. They were part of a trio and tortured me in elementary school. The older sister told me they are all watching the show and made me feel great about myself. I always say, the feelings never change from when you are five years old. I am sorry we didn't get to spend more time talking. I ran into Michael Strahan and his lovely girlfriend Nicole. We keep trying to make a date for dinner! Carlos Santana performed and the legends of all sports were there - Wayne Gretsky, Boomer Esiasan, Dan Merino, Greg Norman, and Jayson Taylor.
Allyson's friend from San Francisco flew in Tuesday night to JFK. We came back to NYC and then the next day drove out to the Hamptons Thursday morning and went to LIU 88.3 to be a guest on Bonnie Grice's Morning show. A true professional and lovely lady - she gave me enough time to talk and tell a story and I never felt rushed.
This weekend I have some special guests coming over but you will have to wait until next week to find out!
Lastly, please sign up for my newsletter at www.jillzarin.com and look at the new TEAM JILL merchandise. We made an entire line of fun T's/Yoga Pants/Hats and even Doggie shirts. I would love your feedback!
NOW FOR ASK JILL!
I loved watching you on The Real Housewives of NYC. Your honesty is so grounding and refreshing, so I'd love your opinion, please. I've been dating a guy for about two months, but he often cares for his ex-wife's son (not his biological son) and has frequently broken dates we've planned. I understand this little boy is his priority, but should I continue with this relationship? It doesn't seem that this is going to change, and I don't know if I'm ready to jump into a pre-made family. How did you handle Bobby's kids?
Gina, New York, NY
Thank you for watching The Real Housewives and for writing. I have the most respect for a man or woman who cares for someone else's child as if it was his/her own. It shows you the kind of man he is and it is a quality you should want in a mate. It isn't nice for him to break plans but sometimes things come up and I would need more details about why and how he communicated this to you. It is expected for you not to be introduced to his "step-son" as it is probably too early in the relationship. Children get attached and it is painful when people go away and it is out of their control. I can only assume as time goes on and the relationship gets stronger that you would be brought into the fold. I don't know how old you are. If you are in your 20s you are right. A pre-made family is not the first choice when finding a mate. However, if you are in your late 30s or 40s, the best men are usually ones who have had previous relationships and often have had children. Since I assume he does not have custody, it should not be a reason for you not to continue to see him if you really like him. Good Luck!
You are my favorite on the show. Not only do I find you to be a good friend, but a very generous and adoring mother. My question is how did this NYC lifestyle happen for you? Was it something you were born into or something your circumstances brought you into? I would love to know the background on such an incredible woman.
Thank you. I was born in Woodmere, NY better know as the Five Towns. It was a very affluent area. My dad is an attorney by profession but never really practiced law. He was an entrepreneur. We had good years and better years. My mom always made us feel rich even we weren't. They sacrificed everything so my sister and I would have a better life than they did. Education was the priority in our family. I have always worked and lived my life to the fullest. I never spent more than I made so I guess I was always rich in my mind. My lifestyle has changed over the years as I got older, married Bobby and continued to work. So I guess the answer is to never spend more than you make...and work hard for what you want. Good Luck!
Good Morning Jill,
I would like to take this opportunity to say that I think you are fabulous. I just moved here to the city from Winter Park, Florida where I was born and raised. I met this man and well here I am. I work and I am trying to meet new people. Scott, shall I say, just is not into going out and the ballet, etc. I was wondering if I may borrow your gay husband? Just kidding - I am 48 and I miss having my girlfriends around and I would really like to meet women my age to go to movies with. I have no idea really where to start. If I was in my 20s I would join a singles group but I am not 20 or really single. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I volunteer at shelters for women and the Humane Society, but I am really looking for something that does not involve any more volunteering since I do hold down a full-time job. Thanks and again I love your sense of humor.
Welcome to New York City! As big a city as it is, it is really quite small when you start to go out. First, do you have any friends you have made over the years who live now in NYC too that you can call? Also, are you an alumni of any college that has a club in NYC? Would you consider playing bridge? There is a wonderful club on 57th Street if you do. I know that card games are very social. The best advice is to go out, smile and be friendly. Even when getting a manicure, start a conversation with the lady next to you if she looks nice. Join a club, even a health club. Takes some classes at the New School. Good Luck!
I was so very excited that you emailed me, I loved you on the show. All the women were great and I really enjoyed watching each and every one of you on the show. How is your stepson - hopefully he is doing better? You are absolutely beautiful. I am 54 and I was wondering if you have any beauty secrets you could share with me, or your favorite things to use?
Thank you! My stepson is home and still recovering. He has good days and bad. Thank you for asking. Many fans of the show have asked me my beauty secrets. I have quite a few. I am even thinking of developing a small line of 'must have' beauty items. My friend has been making me stuff for 20 years and now might be the right time to market it. First tip is moisturizer. It helps fight aging and helps keeps my make-up on. STAY OUT OF THE SUN. If I ever look tan, it is because of self-tanning creams. Please sign up for my newsletter at www.jillzarin.com. I will be sharing beauty tips there in the coming months.
Best wishes on your new venture, so looking forward to hearing your advice. I don't have any questions myself yet, except where do you get your hair done and what color? It is so striking and quite a becoming color on you, I wonder how it would look on me - have a great summer. Oh, I do have a question, why is the show ending? Is there not going to be another show?
Thank you! I Get my hair cut at Gil Ferrar (use Gil) and color at TESS Salon (ONLY USE RITA). Stay tuned for show update next week!
