Dental Hygiene with Dr. Frost
In recognition of February as "Dental Health Month," local Westhampton Beach dentist Dr. Gregory Frost visited the kindergarten classes at Westhampton Beach Elementary
School to speak about dental hygiene.
During Dr. Frost's visit, students enjoyed two short movies, "Dudley Visits the Dentist" and "Toothbrushing with Charlie Brown," asked questions, discussed different dental tools including the explorer, a mirror, and an x-ray and even had an opportunity to wear a dentist's latex gloves.
Following "Toothbrushing with Charlie Brown," Dr. Frost demonstrated to the students the proper way to brush their teeth. "I brush my teeth four times a day," said Dr. Frost. "Ideally, you should brush your teeth at least two times a day, but if you could do it three times a day that would be even better. After his visit, Dr. Frost left a package for each student that included a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a coloring book.
"Once Upon a Mattress"
Westhampton Beach Middle School students perform in 'Once Upon A Mattress.'
For two days at the end of January, the students at Westhampton Beach Middle School performed their 2008 school musical, "Once Upon a Mattress," in the district auditorium. Under the direction of Shaun Johnson and Betsy Doyle, the students worked hard for weeks learning lines, choreography, and musical numbers in preparation for their stage debut.
"Once Upon a Mattress" is a popular retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, The Princess and the Pea. In this story, under the law, no one shall marry until Queen Aggravain's son, Prince Dauntless
, marries. However, every petitioning princess is sent away after failing an unfair test devised by the Queen. Things take a turn when Sir Harry goes off to the swamps and brings back Princess Winnifred for Prince Dauntless. The queen is horrified and immediately begins to scheme, assisted by her wizard sidekick. With a little help from Sir Harry, the King, and the Jester, Winnifred is not quite so easy to get rid of.
It was clear that the audience truly enjoyed the show.
