When I last caught up with the gorgeous Debra Messing at Polo, she mentioned that she was hosting a little gig at Donna Karan's new Urban Zen store in Greenwich Village. What she didn't tell me (probably afraid I'd try to move in on the action) she was cutting the ribbon for my ultimate fantasy, the new shoe department at Saks Fifth Avenue The department is so huge it has its own zip code. I'm not kidding. Steve Sadove Saks' presz, and a regular P.T. Barnum it seems, cut a special deal with the U.S. Post Office. The newly designed 8th Floor will have over 100,000 pairs of designer shoes, a VIP room for private shopping, a shoe repair and refurbishing service, and two cafes. Oh my God!

Girlfriend Debra, stunning in Jean Paul Gaultier with uber stylist Phillip Bloch on her arm, did the honors and then pulled out the plastic for a pair of black stilletos from Christian Louboutin. It was, the first official purchase in this shoe hound version of paradise. I'm swooning and looking to change my zip code ASAP to 10021-SHOE!

Speaking of polo, Donald Trump was the "Star" attraction in several ways. Plugging his latest real estate venture, The Donald seemed to have none other then Star Jones by his side every time a photographer came by. Sort of the way she was at Bill Clinton's side during every available photo op at Jaci and Morris Reid's two weeks ago. Dubbed a Lollipop Head by the New York Post since her recent and fast weight loss which left her with a rather large head on a tiny torso, Miss Star seems to have indeed shed her unwanted poundage but hardly her imperiousness. When asked politely by a local reporter to pose for a quick photo, the former View co-host snapped "I have another engagement" then slowly worked her way through the crowd talking up her new Court TV show. Rudezilla indeed!

The coming days have a couple of serious opportunities for perking up your wardrobe with some serious couture from two of Europe's most exquisite design houses. Saturday Belvedere Vodka - mmm yummy martinis - is hosting an exclusive preview of Missoni's fall collection at the Hampton Hideaway where we peeked in on the ravishing Susan Lucci last weekend. Martins and Missoni a double whammy for Jen!

Next Wednesday, Style Paris by Susan Sutherland and Nancy Stone are hosting a Champagne reception - pink no less - toast to the Great Ladies of the Hamptons - Then and Now with featured guest Gary Lawrance, co-author of the best selling Houses of the Hamptons. On a juggernaut of speaking engagements talking about Palladian and Georgian mansions, Gary will finally dish about the great ladies of these fabled estates like best dressed Hall of Famer Millicent Rogers and many others. He will also give a tip of the hat to the current crop of great ladies who regularly open up their sumptuous homes for major fundraising spectaculars.

There will be informal modeling of Sutherland's luxurious couture dresses, cocktail suits and riding jackets (just in time for the Hampton Classic) and a portion of all sales throughout the weekend will be donated to the newly created Rogers Memorial Library Foundation. Sarah Ehrlich, Sara Herbert-Galloway, Jacquelin Murphy Stahl, Linda Schaller, Kristi Witker, Countess de Lesseps, Judy McDowell, Jill Zarin, Bonnie Comley, Cornelia Bregman, Judy Licht, Marlena Gershowitz (who just moved into her ginormous new house on Captains Neck Lane), Lauren Day and scores more of the East End's most fashionable gals with hearts will all be in attnedance.

One of the nicest new faces in the Hamptons this summer is Miami developer and author R. Donahue Peebles who controls a hotel portfolio reportedly worth $1 billion. The charismatic Peebles recently purchased a 10-acre Bridgehampton compound featuring an 8,000-square-foot, five-bedroom French Palladian house for his family while he pens his next business book for Wiley & Sons. His first out this past spring, "The Peebles Principles", has been called a cross between "The Art of the Deal" and "Why Should White Guys have All the Fun."

His company, Peebles Corp,. is known for luxury development. It's built or redeveloped the $230 million Residences at the Bath Club and $140 million Royal Palm Hotel in Miami Beach, and the $53 million Courtyard by Marriott Convention Center and $112 million 10 G Street NE office building in Washington, D.C., among others. Wonder if he's looking at any particular properties here?

Now we know what Harvey Weinstein's secret trip to Barcelona was all about last week. He and director Rob Marshall (who hails from Bridgehampton) secured the participation of Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem to star in their mega film version of the Broadway show "Nine." The musical will be directed by marshall who brought Oscars and glory to Weinstein and Marty Richards with "Chicago."

Bardem (whom I adored in "Before Night Falls") was offered the role of Guido Contini and Cruz the part of Guido's mistress, Carla. Marshall, who wanted to set his cast early to custom-fit the roles to the strengths of each performer, is also wooing Sophia Loren and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

All of this should make a lot of people very happy from playwright Mario Fratti who adapted the musical from Fellini's classic "8 " to great Broadway acclaim to our very own Southampton power attorney Mark Beigelman who, prior to becoming a lawyer, served as a producer of the original Broadway productions of the Tony award winning musical. Cheers Mark! Next round is on you!

Seen Around the Villages

Wei Fun is proving to be way fun for families and groups who love the casual atmosphere and the wacky menu choices like Ants Climbing a Tree which thoroughly tickles the little ones. "30 Rock" star Alec Baldwin was there lasting week gently chiding daughter Ireland to eat her broccoli. Jon Bon Jovi and wife Dorothea and George Stephanopoulos with wife Ali Wentworth shared almost a dozen dishes and washed it all down with Gruner Vetliner. Heather Mills, with a large party, ordered every veggie side dish on the prodigious menu. Wednesday saw Peter Cook dining with a young blonde, what else, and sipping Lychee martinis and melon margaritas.

While Heather was chowing down, her ex Sir Paul McCartney was spotted looking rather morose on his sailboat doing his very best to ignore the stalking paparazzi loitering on the shore with their telephoto lenses.

East Hampton Point, which has the most beautiful sunsets, was the choice for Joy Behar and jeweler David Yurman. Also at the Point, Mrs. Piano Man, Katie Lee Joel and her guy Billy took a night off from cooking at home to dive into some sea fare specialties of the house sucking up crab claws, lobster rolls, shrimp and calamari.

Happy Anniversary Jerry! Still strong after all those years, Della Femina's continues to attract the A-listers. This weekend it was the hot spot for some famous couples dining a deaux: Jon and Dorothea Bon Jovi; Howard Stern and fiancé Beth Ostrosky, and Matt Lauer with the radiant Annette Roque Lauer.

Roll Call at Nick & Toni's: Thursday Victoria Tennant made a rare visit to the Hamptons and of course popped into the famed celebrity watering hole as did David Geffen, Patricia Bradley, widow of Ed Bradley, Ron Perelman, Mort Zuckerman, and Donald Trump with wife Melania Knauss.
