East Hampton - The New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA) has announced that Mike Bye from East Hampton won the Bronxboro Arm Wrestling Championships Right and Left Handed, earning him the Bronx Arm-Star Award on Sunday, May 23.
The Bronxboro Championships consists of both right and left hand pro and amateur categories for men and women. In addition, there are a boys and girls; 17 years open class. There were first, second and third place awards in each weight class plus, the day's strongest male and female MVP's who were crowned Bronx Strongest Arms received $100 cash prizes. There was also a team competition broken down by Borough, State, and Country with the team winner being determined through a point tally.
More than 100 athletes participated including last year's Bronxboro defending champions. The Bronx championships are part of the multi-event NY Golden Arm Series where up to seven events are held when sponsorship permits; in each of the five NYC Boroughs and Long Island and culminate into the Empire State Finale, to be held on November 18 at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in NYC.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Bronx Tourism Council in cooperation with The City of NY Parks and Recreation hosted the event.
