Stony Brook Southampton is hosting an evening with internationally acclaimed American painter and sculptor, Eric Fischl, on Wednesday, October 23, at 7 p.m. Fischl’s memoir, “Bad Boy,” was published during the spring of 2013.
The book gives an extensive look at the life of the artist, detailing Fischl’s alcohol and drug infused world of art during the 80’s. The memoir starts with stories from his childhood, which was filled with a violent alcoholic mother and terrifying home life. Fischl was able to take his turbulent life experiences and use them as inspiration for his paintings. Fischl lives and works in Sag Harbor, NY with his wife, the painter April Gornik.
A reception will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Writers Speak in the Radio Lounge of Stony Brook Southampton.
Other upcoming readings include Daniel Menaker/Dwight Garner on Wednesday, October 30, Richard Howard on Wednesday, November 13, and a MFA Reading on Wednesday, December 4.
