Amagansett - On August 12, Fridays at Five presents author Gail Levin who will discuss her latest book, "Lee Krasner A Biography."

Gail Levin, biographer, art historian and curator of a number of landmark exhibitions, is also distinguished professor of Art History, American Studies, and Women's Studies at Baruch College and the Graduate School of the City University of New York. She is the author of many books including the definitive "Edward Hopper: An Intimate Biography" which was selected as a Book Prize Finalist by The Los Angeles Times, a "Notable Book of the Year" by The New York Times, and "Best American Biography of 1995" by School Library Journal. Her work has been recognized by numerous grants and awards including seven from the National Endowment for the Humanities. In "Lee Krasner: A Biography," Levin tells the story of a woman best known as Jackson Pollock's long-suffering wife but who is now being recognized as one if the 20th century's modernist masters as well as a trailblazer for women's rights.

The book is an Editors' Choice in the New York Times and the LA Times Review said that Levin "has drawn on her close association with Krasner and extensive research to produce a biography that rings fair and true."

Another reviewer said that her writing has a "novelist's flair for characterization and scene setting...crackling with juicy behind- the-scene -stories of America's rarefied mid-century art world."

A Q&A session follows. The author will sign copies of her book.
The program takes place in the rear garden of the Hampton Library 2478 Main Street Bridgehampton. Beverages and hors d'oeuvres served. Tickets are $15. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. Sponsored by Friends of the Hampton Library 631-537-0015.
