Bridgehampton - The Friends of the Hampton Library are pleased to host author
David S. Reynolds for their Fridays at Five Program on July 15. This is the third in the series that take place in the rear garden of the library in the shade of the century-old Norway Maple tree at 2478 Main Street Bridgehampton.
Reynolds is the prize-winning author of "Walt Whitman's America," "Beneath the American Renaissance" and "John Brown, Abolitionist." He is a Distinguished Professor of English and American Studies at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and winner of many awards including the Bancroft Prize, the Ambassador Book Award, and the Gustavus Myers Outstanding Book Award. "Mightier Than The Sword: Uncle Tom's Cabin & The Battle For America" has been selected among "Top Ten Spring Picks" by both
Publisher's Weekly and
Library Journal. He is a regular contributor to the
New York Times Book Review. About this most recent book, a review in the
New York Times praises his..." informative account of the writing, reception and modern reputation of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" [the book by
Harriet Beecher Stowe]."
Each reading begins at 5 p.m. on a Friday, with gates opening at 4:30 p.m., and lasts for approximately one hour.
Admission is $15 for each week or $60 for a series of 5. Tickets can be
purchased at the gate. Admission includes beverages and hors d'oeuvres prepared by the volunteer Friends committee members.
