Amagansett - Humanities Scholar,
Kimble Humiston will give a series of six multimedia presentations: Great Books Of World Literature in Music and Art, at the Amagansett Library.
Each week Humiston focuses on major literary works, from The Ancient World, The Middle Ages and The Modern World, exploring the interplay between literature, music and art through the ages.
The Humanistic tradition, a way of understanding the world, finding meaning in life, and grounding moral thinking, traces it's beginnings to the Ancient Greeks. Many of the great philosophers, scientists and moral thinkers were essentially humanist, skeptical of traditional beliefs such as the existence of gods and supernatural powers. Humanists instead, advocated thinking for oneself, living a fulfilling and ethical life and pushing human knowledge forwards.
