If you haven’t made plans for Valentine’s Day quite yet, Southampton Arts Center (SAC) is inviting the entire East End to be its Valentine and join SAC for Raconteurs: LOVE – Valentine’s Day Evening of Storytelling.
“This is the 3rd night of storytelling since kicking off the program last spring,” Amy Kirwin, Southampton Arts Center Artistic Director, relayed. “We have presented stories about ‘firsts’ and ‘secrets,’ so it is fitting to hear tales of love on Valentine’s Day.”
During the LOVE themed affair, a group of amusing storytellers will regale the audience with short and sweet accounts of amour – which may be joyous, sorrowful, cute, or even bitter. As the stories deal with varied versions and objects of love, don’t be surprised if you tear up or maybe even crack up.
“Raconteurs is pure storytelling – no notes, props, images – just the storyteller on stage with a microphone and spotlight. It highlights the spoken word as an artform all its own,” Kirwin shared.
Since the evening will venture into varied aspects of love, the gathering is perfect for both those that are coupled up and those who are single and spending the night with their besties.
“The ‘Lovely’ storytellers include Franco Cuttica, Carolann diPirro, Paton Miller, Greg Monske, Eileen Obser, Andrea Harum Schiavoni, and Annie Washburn,” Kirwin added.
Each sharer will engross attendees for a little under ten minutes, with readings commencing at 7 p.m. Those interested in joining the roster and divulging their own love story can contact Amy Kirwin at [email protected].
“My story, Buckles, is about Times Square in the mid 70’s and the people there and looking for ‘love’ in the wrong places,” Miller shared.
Admission to Raconteurs: LOVE – Valentine’s Day Evening of Storytelling is $15 ($10 for Friends of SAC).
