Center Stage at Southampton Cultural Center (SCC) is looking to cast several roles in its upcoming adaptation of Promises, Promises, a take on the 1961 Academy Winning Best Picture, The Apartment. Auditions will be held at Southampton Cultural Center on Sunday, January 8th, and Monday, January 9th at 6 p.m.
The play revolves around Chuck Baxter – who wants to advance his career, but complications arise romantically with his boss and crush.
“The swank and swagger of the 60s bursts in song with Burt Bacharach’s infectious score,” explained Michael Disher, who will direct the production. “I am drawn to this music – remembering many as Top 40 hits from my childhood. Plus, Neil Simon’s smart script only enhances the story that earned The Apartment the Best Picture Oscar in 1961.”
The musical features music by Burt Bacharach, lyrics by Hal David, book by Neil Simon, and original choreography by Michael Bennett. It made its Broadway debut in 1968, with Jerry Orbach as Chuck Baxter and Jill O’Hara as Fran Kubelik. The following year, Promises, Promises premiered in London, with Tony Roberts and Betty Buckley as its stars. The musical returned to Broadway in 2010. Sean Hayes, Kristin Chenoweth, Brooks Ashmanskas, Katie Finneran and Tony Goldwyn starred in the revival.
All ages and vocal types are needed for SCC’s production. Auditions will consist of script readings. Interested parties should prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre of pop standard and come in comfortable clothing to dance.
Promises, Promises will run Thursday, March 9th through Sunday, March 26th. Amanda Borsack Jones will serve as the musical director.
