Summer is finally here and Bay Street Theater will offer a gut wrenchingly funny evening as a way to jump-start the season. On Saturday, May 23rd at 8 p.m., Bay Street Theater will host Memorial Day Weekend with Paula Poundstone.
Poundstone has a long list of awards and accomplishments. The comedienne has starred in comedy specials on HBO and Bravo. She is recognized as one of Comedy Central’s 100 greatest stand ups of all time, a big honor considering names like Joan Rivers, Ray Romano and Robin Williams are also on that list. In 2012, Poundstone was honored at the Moment Magazine Creativity Award, along with NPR correspondent Nina Totenberg and The New York Times columnist David Brooks and New Yorker Cartoon Editor Bob Mankoff.
The Hamptons show is a part of Bay Street’s Comedy Club program. Poundstone is one of the acts that the theater has brought back year after year. She performed there last Memorial Day weekend and a few years before that as well.
“We chose Paula as our Memorial Weekend comic because of her high caliber wit and talent,” noted Topher Williamson of Bay Street. “Paula’s act directly revolves her audience.”
The upcoming Bay Street show will be Poudstone’s 7th time performing at the Sag Harbor theater and Williamson said she’s the “unofficial reigning comic queen at Bay Street.”
“Her comedy comes from the audience; it’s not a routine, but a conversation, an experience,” noted Williamson. “That’s exactly the kind of show we want to kick-off the summer season here at Bay Street.”
Tickets are $69 to $129.
