“My favorite part of the night is talking to the crowd and so far it seems to be working pretty good,” said funny lady Paula Poundstone who is returning to the Hamptons. The comedienne is coming to Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor as part of Comedy Club night on Monday, August 19.
Known for her audience interaction, Poundstond assured Hamptons.com there would be no physical injuries during the performance. “I talk about raising a house full of kids and animals. I talk about current events only as I understand it,” said the comedienne. Other topics that may come up include Abraham Lincoln and The Hardy Boys, because who doesn’t love the 16th President and a good mystery novel.
While there is a comfort level performing in the cities in which she has lived like San Francisco and Boston where she recorded her latest CD, “I Heart Jokes: Paula Tells Them in Boston.” Some of Poundstone’s favorite shows have been in cities which before the tour she wasn’t aware they existed. “That happens all the time. You know, I go to one place or another that I haven’t even heard of and I have a fantastic time.”
The multi-talented comedienne is also regular panelist on NPR’s “Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!” as well as avid reader and author. It was her love of literature inspired her to get involved in literacy projects. Poundstone is the National spokesperson for American Library Association’s United for Libraries. She believes libraries are an important source for society, “They tend to shift slightly according to the needs of the community but I like the idea that it’s a building with a lot of books in it with a bunch of people who know where to find them, some even give assistance with things like filing out resumes.”
