Be a star at the Hampton Theatre Company (HTC) this fall by auditioning for the Jon Robin Baitz drama, “Other Desert Cities”. Auditions are Sunday, August 25, from 2 to 4 p.m. and Monday, August 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Quogue Community Hall. Both union and non-union actors are invited to attend. Readings will be from the script, and monologues and appointments are not necessary.
The drama is about a family gathering at which the inevitable publishing of an volatile memoir threatens to tear the family apart. HTC is seeking actors for the roles of:
Lyman Wyeth is a wealthy former movie star and ambassador whose in his late 60’s. Lyman once steeped in Reagan Republican politics and is now self-exiled to Palm Springs.
Polly Wyeth, Lyman’s wife who is tough, bitter, and terrified of being otherwise, but she also the person holding things together despite her issues.
Brooke Wyeth is in her 40’s, and is the daughter of Polly and Lyman. Brooke, a depressive and fragile writer, has recovered from a nervous breakdown by writing an explosive book about the family’s most painful chapter for which she has come home to seek her parents’ blessing.
Trip Wyeth is Lyman and Polly’s youngest child. A TV producer and the least scarred member of the family, he is actually calm and at ease, as well as his mother’s darling.
Silda Grauman is Polly’s sister and former partner in a scriptwriting team. A wisecracking burnt-out alcoholic as well as favorite aunt.
Rehearsals for “Other Desert Cities” begin September 16, with performances running from October 24 through November 10, (with a possible extension through November 17,) on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings as well as Sunday afternoons.
