Quogue - The Hampton Theatre Company is promising to shock audiences out of their winter doldrums as the new year begins with "Deathtrap" by Ira Levin, the longest running comic thriller in Broadway history, opening January 12 at the Quogue Community Hall.

The rubix cube of suspense involves a blocked writer of theatrical thrillers, Sydney Bruhl, his wife Myra, who has been paying his bills for the past 11 years, and a former student, Clifford Anderson, who has written a can't-miss Broadway hit. Throw in a Dutch psychic, Helga Ten Dorp, who draws on her ESP to issue warnings to characters in harm's way, and an attorney with aspirations of his own to write a hit play, and you have all the makings of a deadly game in which you can never be sure who is the cat and who is the mouse.

"Deathtrap" will run for three weekends from Thursday, January 12 through Sunday, January 29.

Sydney Bruhl, the frustrated writer at the center of "Deathtrap," will be played in Quogue by Andrew Botsford, a familiar face on the East End who appeared most recently as Marc in the HTC's 2011 production of "ART." Tristan Vaughan, who made his HTC debut last spring as the romantic lead in "The Enchanted April," plays his former student and promising playwright, Clifford. Rosemary Cline, who also played a principal role in "The Enchanted April," plays Myra Bruhl, Sydney's wife; Diana Marbury plays the psychic Helga Ten Dorp; and newcomer John J. Steele, Jr. plays Sydney's lawyer, Porter Milgrim.

Edward A. Brennan directs. The set is by Sean Marbury, lighting by Sebastian Paczynski, set decor by Diana Marbury, and costumes by Teresa LeBrun.

"Deathtrap" will be presented on Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors (except Saturdays) and $10 for students under 21.
