East Hampton - The star studded 80th anniversary of
Guild Hall was cancelled this weekend due to Hurricane Irene but the sun came out on Monday and producers
Ellen M. Krass,
Stewart F. Lane,
Bonnie Comley and
Lonny Price hosted a full house at the 360 seat theater for a screening of their production of
Stephen Sondheim's "Company" with the New York Philharmonic. A private party catered by
Turtle Crossing followed the screening at the home of Krass.
Proceeds from the event benefit East Hampton's Guild Hall. Guild Hall has been a center for the arts, entertainment, and education for the East End community for 80 years. Its primary focus is to inform, inspire, and enrich its diverse audiences by presenting programs of the highest quality. Guild Hall combines the 360 seat John Drew Theater and the Guild Hall Art Museum.
The original "Company" on Broadway in 1970 was nominated for 14 Tonys, winning Best Musical, Book for Musical, Original Score, Lyrics, Set Design and Direction of a Musical. "Company's" plot revolves around Bobby (a single man unable to commit fully to a steady relationship, let alone marriage), the five married couples who are his best friends, and his three girlfriends. It's a concept musical composed of short vignettes, presented in no particular chronological order, linked by a celebration for Bobby's 35th birthday.
