New York City - "If I Were a Rich Man," "Little Tin Box," "Til Tomorrow," "She Loves Me," "Will He Like Me" and "Sunrise, Sunset" are just a few of the tunes that were brought to life on Monday, May 16, 2011, at New York's legendary National Arts Club. The Theatre Museum paid tribute to legendary Broadway lyricist
Sheldon Harnick - the Museum's 2011 Career Achievement Award recipient. The award was presented from longtime colleague
Hal Prince, winner of an unprecedented 21 Tony Awards.
The nights other honorees included Tony Award winning producer
Bonnie Comley, who received The Theatre Museum's Distinguished Service to the Theatre Award, presented by
Jim Dale.
Frank Cullen and
Donald McNeilly, received The Theatre History Preservation Award, and The
Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, was honored with The Theatre Museum's Theatre Arts Education Award.
Top Broadway talent including
Gregg Edelman,
Tovah Feldshuh,
Jenny Fellnerv,
Anita Gillette,
Jessica Grove,
Elizabeth Inghram,
Jim Brochu,
Howard McGillin and
John Bolton performed songs from Harnick's career which spans over 60 years. Tony, Emmy and Academy award winner,
Tony Walton directed the night's performance which was produced by
Jared Hershkowitz.
The mission of The Theatre Museum is to preserve, protect and perpetuate the legacy of theatre. The Theatre Museum mounts exhibitions throughout the year celebrating aspects of the unique experience of live theater in collaboration with other cultural and educational institutions.
