East Hampton - This summer on most every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. through August,
Guild Hall will host "(Re)Discovering World Cinema: Gems from the Janus Collection," in the newly renovated John Drew Theater.
This is a series celebrating the masterful works of
Henri-Georges Clouzot,
Emanno Olmi,
Akira Kurosawa,
Roman Polanski,
Ingmar Bergman,
Federico Fellini, and
Louis Malle compiled by film programmer,
Gavin Wiesen.
"This series shows how the brilliance of these masters shines in these exceptional films that are classics in their own right and rival many of the directors' more widely known works," said Wiesen who has been a passionate student of the cinema his entire life, including studying film theory at NYU. He wrote and directed "Killer Day" a short independent film that debuted with much success at the Gen Art Film Festival in New York City.
Janus Films is acknowledged as being the first distributor to import world cinema to the United States in the early 1950s. This is a rare opportunity for the film lover to experience these great movies on the big screen. Come early and enjoy the wine reception starting at 7:30 p.m. Last year the series sold out.
Admission is $12/$10 for members.
