Southampton - A new, Long Island-set environmental film, "Sea Bourne," will have its Southampton premiere on May 9 at 3 p.m. at Stony Brook Southampton's Avram Theater.
"Sea Bourne" is an exciting cultural film project, depicting the beauty and greatness of the sea, the power of ordinary and extraordinary people, and our human endeavor to affect change as we live our lives of unfolding purpose. The film was shot on location at the beautiful beaches surrounding Suffolk County, Long Island, and introduces us to the lives of Long Islanders who live and work on the water, offering their perspectives as baymen, commercial fisherman, ecologists, scientists, educators and boat builders.
"Sea Bourne" expresses aliveness and community connections, and voices concerns for the future and the need for action in order to build a sustainable environment. The film seeks to reveal the precious gift of the sea and offers a catalyst for promoting more understanding about our relationships to the sea.
The film is produced and directed by Amy Yopp Sullivan, filmed and edited by Vivian Piccone Jung, the score is composed by Max Duykers, and features dancer Lisa Malone, and vocalist Luz Alina Rivas.
"Sea Bourne" is part of "From Sea to Shining Sea: A Public Movement Project," directed by Amy Yopp Sullivan through the Center for Dance, Movement and Somatic Learning at Stony Brook University. IronWorks on the Edge, a component of The Center, is a new professional performance/media company and will be presenting the film. The IronWorks mission is to explore the place and narrative of the moving body in documentaries.
The film is made possible in part with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts. In Suffolk County the Decentralization Program is administered by the Huntington Arts Council, Inc. in partnership with the Suffolk Consortium of Arts Councils. "Sea Bourne" is created in loving memory of Jacob Klaassen (1923-2008) and is dedicated to Nelson Slager and Kathleen O'Sullivan. The Long Island Seaport and Eco Center in Port Jefferson, has graciously acted as the on-going sponsoring organization for the project.
Tickets are $5 for community members and can be purchased at the door. SUNY students and faculty are admitted free of charge. For further information, contact 631-632-5023.
