This August, escape the sweltering summer heat by watching a screening of the best current release art house, foreign, independent, and documentary films during the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center's World Cinema series. Andrew Botsford, a visiting professor and communications consultant for the graduate arts program at Stony Brook Southampton and co-host of the annual Hamptons Take 2 Documentary Film Festival, will host each Tuesday night viewing and discuss the films afterwards with guest commentators.

On Tuesday, August 4th through Thursday, August 6th, the series will feature James Kent's "Testament of Youth." The powerful story of love, war and remembrance, is based on the First World War memoir by Vera Brittain, which has become an iconic testimony of that war from a woman's point of view.

Next up is Asif Kapadia's "Amy." The film will screen Tuesday, August 11th through Thursday, August 13th. "Amy" tells the heart-breaking, incredible story of six-time Grammy-winner Amy Winehouse, in her own words. The documentary includes extensive unseen archive footage, previously unheard tracks, and interviews with those who knew her best, like Mitch Winehouse, Mark Ronson, Blake Fielder and Yasiin Bey. "A shattering biographical portrait," said The New York Times.

On Tuesday, August 18th through Thursday, August 20th, catch Ken Loach's "Jimmy's Hall." Set in the 1930s, the British-Irish drama follows political activist Jimmy Gralton (Barry Ward), who faces deportation for running a community hall for the arts.

The final August screening is Brett Haley's "I'll See You in My Dreams" on Tuesday, August 25th through Thursday, August 27th. Following the death of her adored dog, Carol (Blythe Danner) a widow and former songstress, finds that life can start again at any age. Carol takes on an unlikely new friendship, pursues a new love interest and reconnects with her daughter.

Screenings begin at 7 p.m. and tickets are $15 for adults, $9 for students/seniors, and $5 for WHBPAC Film Society members.

Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center is located at 76 Main Street in Westhampton Beach. For more information, call 631-288-1500 or visit www.whbpac.org.
