The Parrish Art Museum
is hosting the Long Island premier of "Remembering the Artist: Robert De Niro
, Sr." The screening will be held in the Lichtenstein Theater on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 6 p.m.
De Niro, Sr., who was highly successful in the 1940s and 50s, is best known for his paintings which combine representational subject matter with abstract and expressionist styles. Robert De Niro, Sr. was a celebrated painter whose achievement was largely eclipsed by the abstract expressionist and pop art movements of the 1950s and 60s. "This films chronicles his life through the words
of the artist himself, through those of his contemporaries, and most movingly, through those of his son, actor Robert De Niro." noted Alicia Longwell
, the Parrish's Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman
Directly following the premiere, Museum Director Terrie Sultan
will lead a Q&A session with film co-director Geeta Gandbhir. Gandbhir has over 20 years of experience in the film and television industry, and is an Oscar nominee and a two time Emmy
Award winner. Gandbhir and her partner Perri Peltz
are currently working on a series of documentaries on rehabilitation in national prisons and female UN Peacekeepers in Haiti.
Space is limited and reservations are recommended for this highly anticipated screening. The event is free for members, children and students and is a $10 fee for all others.
