Southampton - The recent publication by Yale University Press of
William Merritt Chase: Landscapes in Oil, Volume Three of the William Merritt Chase Catalogue Raisonné Project, provides the occasion for a lecture and book signing on Saturday, October 10, 6 pm, at the
Parrish Art Museum.
D. Frederick Baker, a director of the Pisano/Chase Catalogue Raisonné Project, and
Carolyn K. Lane, who completed the third volume after
Ronald G. Pisano's untimely death, will present a "visual diary" of the life and career of Chase. The talk will begin with the artist's student days in Germany in the 1870s, followed by the summer months in Holland and Spain and the park scenes of Brooklyn and Manhattan before focusing on the artist's Shinnecock landscapes. Chase's later trips to Europe and California will also be discussed.
William Merritt Chase: Landscapes in Oil consists of beautiful reproductions of all of Chase's known landscapes painted in oil, including many of his best loved works, accompanied by the most current and thorough documentation on each image. A book signing will follow the talk.
Admission to the lecture is $5 for Parrish members, $10 for non-members. The book will be on sale for $65, and $55.25 for Parrish members.
The Museum's programs are made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, at state agency.
