Upcoming Events At The Parrish Art Museum

Southampton - The Parrish Art Museum has announced some upcoming events:

Saturday, January 28
The Parrish Art Museum and The Watermill Center will co-host an important information session for artists interested in applying to Creative Capital's 2012 Emerging Fields, Literature, and Performing Arts grant cycle. As part of its ongoing Opera and Ballet in Cinema series, the Parrish Art Museum will present the Royal Opera's new production of Jules Massenet's "Cendrillon in HD at 2 p.m. The four-act opera is based on Perrault's 1698 version of the Cinderella fairy tale and premiered in Paris in 1899. The running time is 170 minutes, including intermission. Tickets are $14 for Parrish members, $17 for nonmembers. The Royal Opera staged "Cendrillon" for the first time in its history at the end of its 2010-2011 season. The production was directed by Laurent Pelly, who brings his characteristic lightness of touch, wit, and elegance to Massenet's delightfully tuneful score, with sets and costumes of fairytale charm. Joyce DiDonato sings the title role in this version, whose musical highlights include the fairy godmother's airy coloratura, the orchestral dances of the ball, the March of the Princesses, and rapturous duets between the Prince and Cendrillon.

The Museum's programs are made possible, in part, with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, celebrating 50 years of building strong, creative communities in New York State's 62 counties, and the property taxpayers from the Southampton School District and the Tuckahoe Common School District.

Sunday, January 29
The Parrish Art Museum's High School Exhibition will open to the public Sunday, January 29, 2012, and remain on view through February 26. An opening reception, free to the public, will take place Saturday, January 28, at 5 p.m. The High School Exhibition will showcase the creative talents of aspiring artists by providing a forum for students to display their best work. While high school students have long been included in Parrish student exhibitions, this focused presentation will emphasize the talent and creativity of our region's emerging visual artists.

A variety of media, including painting, drawing, mixed media, and sculpture, is included. This year's installation features portraits and will include selections from the Parrish's permanent collection, originally displayed as part of American Portraits: Treasures from the Parrish Art Museum. High School students from Brookhaven, Riverhead, East Hampton, Southold, and Southampton townships will be featured in the exhibition.

Participating schools are Bellport High School, Bridgehampton High School, Eastern Suffolk BOCES Brookhaven Technical Center, East Hampton High School, Eastport-South Manor High School, Greenport High School, Hampton Bays High School, Mattituck High School, Pierson High School, Riverhead High School, Ross School, Southampton High School, Southold High School, Ward Melville High School, Westhampton Beach High School, and William Floyd High School.

Mills, Elisabeth and Peter Haveles, May and Samuel Rudin Family Foundation, Inc., Bridgehampton National Bank, Milton & Sally Avery Arts Foundation, Inc., Town of Southampton, and the property taxpayers of Southampton School District and Tuckahoe Common School District.
