Sag Harbor - On Saturday, April 9,
April Gornik opened up her Sag Harbor studio to paint with foster kids to create artwork for auction.
In the weeks leading up to the 11th Annual ARTrageous Gala + Auction held on May 23, 2011 at Cipriani Wall Street, NYC, children residing in foster care are paired with children of ARTrageous patrons to collaborate with a dynamic group of artists. Each year for the past decade, like Gornik, dozens of artists roll up their sleeves, open their studios and hearts to make a difference in the lives of foster children.
ARTrageous brings artists like
Jeff Koons,
Richard Prince,
Marilyn Minter,
George Condo,
Romero Britto,
Stephen Hannock,
Alex Katz,
Glenn Ligon and others too numerous to mention together for a common cause. The artwork created, along with donated works of art and luxury items will be on exhibit and sold in a live and silent auction lead by Christie's auctioneer
George McNeeley.
ARTrageous was founded by
Linda Argila, who makes it her mission in life to raise awarenes
s regarding the plight of foster children and to bring the artistic community together to help provide a solution. Today, more than 16,000 children and teens are living in foster care in New York City. For more than 75 years, Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families, a nonprofit organization, has been providing a wide range of programs and services to thousands of these children. Without the help of ARTrageous supporters, the quality-of-life and opportunities they provide could not be met.
