Several Bay Street Theater alums are returning this holiday season to take part in a special one-night-only reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
Taking place on Thursday, December 20 at 7 p.m., the seasonal extravaganza will feature Harris Yulin (Bay Street’s Frost Nixon, Ozarks), Amanda Nichols (Bay Street’s The Last Night of Ballyhoo, The Great Gatsby), John Kroft (Bay Street’s The Great Gatsby), and Paul Hecht.
The script, which was adapted by Hecht and Bay Street Theater Associate Artistic Director Will Pomerantz, is based on the version that Dickens himself presented while touring the world. The feel good tale follows Scrooge, an insufferable old man who views Christmas as a “humbug,” but, after being visited by the ghost of his former business partner and spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come, changes his way.
“The interesting thing about casting for this,” Will Pomerantz, who directed Bay Street’s 2018 Mainstage smash hit Evita, revealed, “is that that each of the four actors will take a turn playing Scrooge as well as serving as narrator for one of the sections of the story. So, there is a sort of ‘tag-team’ Scrooging that goes on, which I think will be interesting and fun for the audience and the actors.”
Local favorite Dan Koontz will provide the performance’s live music and there will also be a sing-along with caroling and eggnog in the lobby following the performance.
Admission to A Christmas Carol is complimentary, but reservations are required.
