"South Of The Border - The Latin Side Of Charlie Parker" To Heat Up The Hamptons This Winter

Nicole Barylski

LIVE from Southampton Arts Center will resume at Southampton Arts Center (SAC) on Saturday, January 14th with South of the Border - The Latin Side of Charlie Parker.

"LIVE from Southampton Arts Center 2017 will continue to excite and surprise with world-class performances," explained series curator Claes Brondal. "In a deliberate effort to deliver one-of-a-kind experiences The Jam Session, in collaboration with Southampton Arts Center and Union Cantina, will present an eclectic schedule of artists. Styles such as jazz, funk, world, fusion, hip-hop, salsa, and more will be performed - accompanied by food relating to each concert respectfully."

During South of the Border - The Latin Side of Charlie Parker, the music series will pay tribute to American jazz saxophonist and composer Charlie Parker's South of the Border album. Released in 1953, the album highlighted the musician's series of impressive interpretations of Latin Jazz hits that were created "with stunning vitality." The evening will celebrate Parker and his involvement with Machito and the Latin/Jazz tinge. The performance will consist of select recordings from South of the Border paired with original South African compositions.

The concert will feature Morris Goldberg on Saxophone and Penny Whistle, Diego Urcola on Trumpet, Bill O'Connell on Piano, Marcus McLaurine on Bass, Mayra Casales on Congas, and Claes Brondal on Drums. Goldberg, who recently completed recording his third album with his group, OJOYO, will also lead the concert.

To enhance the Latin flair, complimentary refreshments courtesy of Union Cantina will be available prior to and during the concert.

LIVE from Southampton Arts Center will continue on Saturday, February 11th, Saturday, March 25th, Saturday, April 22nd, Saturday, May 20th, and Saturday, June 17th.

Admission is $15. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 7 p.m.

Southampton Arts Center is located at 25 Jobs Lane in Southampton. For more information, call 631-283-0967 or visit southamptonartscenter.org.

Hampton Luxury Liner
Hampton Luxury Liner was started in 2000 as a more luxurious way to travel from NYC to the Hamptons and back. The clientele quickly grew and over the years Hampton Luxury liner became the preferred method of transportation to the Hamptons and NYC for many living in NYC and the Hamptons that wanted a comfortable and affordable way to travel back and forth. In 2009, HLL was taken over by Classic Coach and things with the liner didnít change to much for years and the owner there changed the buses to Prevost as opposed to Mercedes Setra Top Class Coaches that have always been a signature of the liner.
