Westhampton Beach - The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center's "Breakout Artist Series" returns this fall in partnership with WEHM 92.9 & 96.9FM. WHBPAC presents singer/songwriter Joseph Arthur on Sunday, October 8 at 8 p.m. All tickets are $30!

A recent musical guest on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," this prolific alt-pop singer/songwriter has been known to create "a dynamic swirl of noise that somehow appears magically around him" (NPR). His new album, "The Graduation Ceremony," is one of his most beautiful pieces of work in a two decade career that includes seven prior studio albums, 11 EPs, plus collaborations with Peter Gabriel and R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. His unique solo performance with trademark poetic lyrics and sound loops are deep and universal.

Growing up in the 1970s and 1980s in Akron, OH, Arthur's musical life started off like many others, with mandatory piano lessons. But once he realized he could use the piano to conjure up his own musical worlds, he took to the instrument and began writing songs. Although Arthur aspired to be a world-class jazz or fusion bass player, a demo tape of Arthur's songs somehow made its way to Peter Gabriel and his Real World Records label. Next thing Arthur knew, he was playing at Gabriel's WOMAD festival and was subsequently signed to Real World Records.

Previously nominated for a best recording package Grammy for his 1999 EP "Vacancy," Arthur is also an accomplished painter, having displayed his works in galleries around the world. His online-only "Museum of Modern Arthur" serves as a repository for his creations.

Tickets are $30, and can be purchased on line at www.whbpac.org, Box Office at 631-288-1500, or 76 Main Street, Westhampton Beach, (Wednesday through Sunday, 12 noon to 6 p.m. and later on show nights).
