Westhampton Beach - The young romantic crooner, Sachal Vasandani will make his Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center debut on July 23 at 8:30 p.m.

With a deep-brewed voice and an original genesis of jazz and pop music this fresh, young vocalist and songwriter is garnering respect from a diverse spectrum of audiences. He's opened for artists like Chris Botti and Joan Osborne and was recognized by Downbeat magazine as its 2010 Rising Star. His new CD, "We Move," has elevated him to a new status among jazz singers.

Vasandani was born in Chicago and grew up in a household where all kinds of music were appreciated. His parents listened to a variety of jazz, from Duke Ellington to Keith Jarrett, which piqued his curiosity. In pursuing his love for music at the University of Michigan, he began to be recognized as a talent of the future.

After moving to New York, Vasandani quickly became a part of the jazz scene, and made a musical home in storied clubs like the Zinc Bar. He was also tapped for a number of guest performances and recordings, notably by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, Eric Reed, T.S. Monk, and countless other peer and mentor musicians.

Vasandani possesses an uncanny sensibility to straddle the fine line between jazz and pop with songs that teem with emotion and intellect. One of the most promising voices in modern jazz, Vasandani will present both standards and original music in concert with a composed, subtle honesty. His easy-going delivery is accessible to all music lovers.

Opening for Sachal Vasandani will be Duke University's Award-winning, All Male A Capella Group The Pitchforks. Founded in 1979, The Pitchforks are the oldest a cappella group at Duke University. They have sung the national anthem at Chicago Bulls and Duke Basketball games, showcased themselves before the Queen of Jordan, and even opened for Ben Folds at Duke's Last Day of Classes in the spring of 2009. The group has twice won the CARA Award for Best Male Collegiate Album in the nation with its 2006 release, "Bring It Back," and its 2008 release, "Disconcert." The Pitchforks' most recent album, "All In," was released last August and has been awarded runner-up for Best Male Collegiate Album as well as winner of Best Male Collegiate Song and Best Male Collegiate Arrangement for its hit single, "Fireflies."
