Bridgehampton - The Bridgehampton Historical Society's popular Saturday afternoon "Parlor Series" will continue with its fifth event featuring local folk singer/songwriter
Caroline Doctorow with her acoustic folk band,
The Steamrollers, on March 12 at 2 p.m.
Doctorow is a singer/songwriter from Bridgehampton who has released six recordings on Narrow Lane Records. Her latest, "Another Country," was released three months ago. She grew up in a literary family. Her father is renowned author
E.L. Doctorow. Her mother, also a writer, is from North Carolina. Both her parents played folk music as a hobby when she was a child. Caroline quickly became enamored of the folk stars that she met through her parents, such as
Pete Seeger, strong>
Judy Collins,
Joan Baez and
Mimi Fariña, whom she counts as a significant influence. Her singing can be heard on the PBS series "Freedom A History of Us" narrated by
Katie Couric, as well as on several film soundtracks, several indie releases, and of course her own albums.
This year's Parlor Series is being held at the Historical Society's "Archives" building which is located immediately east of the "monument" intersection next to the Nathaniel Rogers House which is under restoration. Space is limited and reservations are suggested but not required. To make a reservation call the Bridgehampton Historical Society at 631-537-1088.
All concerts begin at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 for members, $10 for non-members, and can be paid at the door. Children are always welcome; children under 12 are free.
