'Summer Roses: Classical And Romantic Music At Southampton Cultural Center

Junko Ohtsu. (SHCC)

Southampton - "Summer Roses: Classical & Romantic Music for Voice and Violin" will be held at Southampton Cultural Center's Levitas Center for the Arts, 25 Pond Lane, Southampton on Sunday, August 15 at 3 p.m.

Rising soprano Sarah Moulton first discovered her passion for opera and classical music in the eighth grade at the Southampton Intermediate School when she was given the part of Amahl in "Amahl and the Night Visitors" in a joint production with Opera of the Hamptons. Later that year on a hot August day in Southampton, Sarah first met world renowned violinist, Junko Ohtsu, who soon became not only her friend but also her mentor offering guidance, encouragement and support through the long years of training that are the foundation of any classical performer. Now, 16 years later, and once again in August, Sarah and Junko are pleased to present their first full length recital, a treasured dream 16 years in the making, featuring works by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Eugène Ysaÿe, Samuel Barber and Amy Beach.

Ohtsu, a recipient of two consecutive John D. Rockefeller III grants, has been featured as a soloist with many highly regarded symphonies both here and abroad and has toured all over the globe including Russia, the Czech Republic, the Philippines and Australia.

Moulton made her opera debut in 2008 as the pink sheep with New York City Opera's "Candide" at Lincoln Center. Since then, she has made numerous appearances in the New York area and has sung Mozart's Exsultate, Jubilate at the historic St. Mauritius Church in Zermatt, Switzerland.

Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 students.
