Westhampton Beach - The Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center presents acoustic, progressive violin and Django-style guitar jazz played by
Mark O'Connor and his Hot Swing Trio featuring
Frank Vignola and
Julian Lang on Friday, August 6 at 8:30 p.m. in the Mollie Parnis Auditorium.
When at
Carnegie Hall, he is known as a violin virtuoso. In Nashville, he is just one hot fiddler! O'Connor can do it all. Joined by Vignola and Lage, O'Connor's "Hot Swing" is a tribute to his friend and mentor,
Stephane Grappelli and is sure to be an outstanding evening, celebrating the acoustic string with blazing musical gymnastics.
A product of America's rich folk tradition as well as being a Classical and Flamenco music student in his formative years, O'Connor's creative journey began at the feet of the folk fiddler and innovator who created the modern era of American fiddling in the 1940s,
Benny Thomasson, and a French jazz violinist who was considered one of the greatest improvisers in the history of the violin,
Grappelli. Along the way, between these marvelous musical extremes, O'Connor absorbed knowledge and influence from the multitude of musical styles and genres he studied. Now, at age 49, he has melded and shaped these influences into a new American Classical music, and is perpetuating his vision of an American school of string playing.
