It’s about to get real surreal at RJD Gallery in Bridgehampton, who has invited a transcendent group of experts in the genre of realism to present their works.
Dedicated to contemporary Surrealist painters, Surreal Alternative will premiere on Saturday, April 14 and remain on view through Sunday, May 13. Featured artists include Turkish artist Fatih Gurbuz, renowned Swedish artist Alexander Klingspor, award-winning Angolan-Portuguese painter Jorge Santos, and Margo Selski.
“We are excited to showcase these well developed surrealistic artworks, an often overlooked style, that works very well within the realm of figurative art,” said Richard J. Demato, owner of RJD Gallery.
At first glance the numerous works may be perceived as traditional in regards to composition, palette and technique, however unexpected juxtapositions offer aspects that defy expected narratives. Each masterpiece challenges the viewer to delve into their unconscious, as the artist did to create the piece, and enter a thought provoking, mesmerizing otherworldly environment.
Similar to when surrealism was born, after World War I, many artists today use their creative process as a brief break from the bleakness of reality and opportunity to test the human mind.
The opening reception for Surreal Alternative will take place on Saturday, April 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Klingspor, who had a museum exhibition opening in Sweden last month, will be in attendance.
