Being cooped up inside have you channeling your artistic side? East End Arts is looking for new artwork to feature in two of its upcoming exhibitions.
The first, Cannabis: Herb of the Hour, is a juried, all media art show that will open on Friday, March 9. Mary Cantone, owner/director of William Ris Gallery in Jamesport, is serving as the guest juror.
“Marijuana, its recreational use, potential abuse and legalization has been much in the news lately,” noted East End Arts Gallery Director Jane Kirkwood. “I encourage artists to take this opportunity to express their personal feelings and reactions to the substance. Let’s have a dialog starting with art.”
Mediums accepted will include painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, and sculpture, and artists may submit up to three works. Entries must be dropped off at the East End Arts Gallery on Thursday, March 1, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, March 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., or Saturday, March 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Cannabis will remain on view through Friday, April 20.
East End Arts’ seventh annual national juried art competition and exhibit, Ink, will be on view Friday, August 3 through Wednesday, September 19. Sara De Luca, the owner and director of ILLE ARTS gallery in Amagansett, has been named the exhibition’s guest juror.
“This competition is open to all ‘ink’ media including ballpoint, fountain pen, printmaking, Sharpie, tattoo ink (which may be submitted as photography of Tattoo artwork) alcohol ink, India ink—any and every ink media with the exception of desktop printer ink,” Kirkwood explained.
The exhibition is open to two-dimensional submissions only, and pieces may not exceed 30 inches, including the frame.
Entries should be submitted online by Tuesday, March 27, with a late entry deadline of Tuesday, April 10 (for an additional fee). Artists may submit up to five works, and selected pieces will be announced on or before Friday, June 1.
Top honors will be awarded a seven-day stay in East End Arts’ artist residence near Hamptons’ museums and galleries, as well as $1,000 and a feature in a group show at Ille Arts. Additionally, the artist will receive 100 postcards announcing the show that will showcase their artwork.
Both shows will be on display at the East End Gallery in Riverhead.
