East End Hospice (EEH) will host its 17th annual Box Art Benefit Auction at Hoie Hall at St. Luke's Church in East Hampton on Saturday, August 26th, at 4:30 p.m.

"So many artists on the East End have once again contributed their time, talent and singular creativity to produce these unique works of portable art for this most worthy cause," noted Benefit Chair, Arlene Bujese.

90 artists, including April Gornik, Carol Hunt, James Kennedy, Dennis Leri, Christa Maiwald, Fulvio Massi, Gabriele Raacke, Hans van de Bovenkamp, Dan Welden, and Frank Wimberley, were given a small cigar or wine box to use as a canvas or base for their masterpiece. Some of the art forms incorporated into the boxes this year include ceramics, sculpture, painting, collage, assemblage and needlework on fabric.

Leading up to the Auction, the public can view the featured works at Hoie Hall on Wednesday, August 23 and Thursday, August 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. East End Hospice will also host a Meet The Artist preview reception at Hoie Hall on Wednesday, August 23 from 5 to 7 p.m. Admission to both is free.

"EEH is one of the most loving organizations when the light dims near the end of living," noted participating artist Hans Van de Bovenkamp. "To help thru donating, such as artists do with their work, or through volunteering, is one of the most profound and satisfying acts."

On Saturday, the Silent Auction will open at 4:30 p.m. and the live auction, with auctioneer Lucas Hunt, will start at 5:45 p.m. This year's Box Art Benefit Auction will also honor Ruth Appelhof, former Executive Director of Guild Hall, with The Spirit of Community Award for her contributions to the art community and for making Guild Hall a beacon for the arts for the entire East End community.

The 2017 Honorary Box Art Benefit Auction Committee includes Hilaria and Alec Baldwin, Gregory Black, Very Rev. Denis Brunelle, Michael Cinque, Theodore Conklin, April Gornik, Margery & Sheldon Harnick, Barbara Layton, Hon. Paul F. Rickenbach Jr., Cantor/Rabbi Debra Stein, Donald Sussis, Sandra Wagenfeld and Susan Kennedy Zeller.

All proceeds will support East End Hospice, who provides care for terminally ill patients, their families and loved ones living on the North and South Forks of Long Island.

Tickets to East End Hospice's Box Art Benefit Auction are $75.

Hoie Hall is located at 18 James Lane in East Hampton. For more information visit www.eeh.org.
