In anticipation of the debut of Abiding by Beauty: Paintings by Timothy McGuire,
The Artist Study, a gallery, academy and studio of thinkers, is presenting a special preview at Tripoli Gallery. On view, Thursday, March 24th through Sunday, March 27th, the exhibit showcases recent works from McGuire, who was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, and currently teaches, paints, and resides in Florence, Italy.
"Self Portrait" by Timothy McGuire.
"In our current times, it's essential to have some point of contact, some one issue you follow and understand," noted The Artist Study. "Let us open our apertures a little by allowing in more of something — Art, music literature, conversation, ideas, an encounter... or three."
Abiding by Beauty
gives the viewer a look at nature and humanity through the artist's point of view. McGuire, a highly trained painter, uses instinct to observe and capture the splendor of his subjects. In works like "Montauk Fishing Boat" or "Coffee," he depicts the mundane elements of our daily lives, and manages to remind the observer how the simplicity of life can often be overlooked, but it's worth stopping and reveling in its magnificence. Influences from Manet and Whistler can be seen in pieces like "Venice Canal."
Quiet by nature, McGuire uses his artwork to share his story. "A man of few words, I prefer to communicate with painted images," he explained. "I always paint from life. Through the marks I make, I try to communicate some combination of what I see, how I feel, and what I think." His vivid imagery makes one almost feel like they were there during McGuire's journeys. "My paintings represent my best self; direct, honest, and open," McGuire added.
McGuire, who is the head academic instructor of The Artist Study, has had his artwork featured in several solo shows in Florence, as well as at Shain Gallery in Charlotte, NC, Ann Long Fine Art in Charleston, SC, and the New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, CT. Abiding by Beauty
is a curated collection of landscapes, seascapes, portraits and adored items from McGuire's explorations.
An opening reception for the exhibit will take place at Tripoli Gallery on Saturday, March 26th from 6 to 8 p.m.
