"Strength In Layers" Showcases Three Emerging Young Artists

"I value the human aspects of art-making that make the work perfectly imperfect; the rough edges, the lines that are not perfectly straight, the slightly askew elements, the overlapping of colors, etc.," said artist Steve Mitrani. "This is where you can truly see the artist's hand in the work."

Starting Saturday, June 20th through Tuesday, August 4th, works by Mitrani, along with Ruben Marroquin and Oliver Peterson, will be on display at Dodds & Eder Home. "Strength in Layers" features pieces from the three emerging young artists. The group show is a characteristic of the college medium, unique in application and result. As an art form, collage gained modern awareness during the early 20th century, as realized by cubist artists Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso. Inspired, many artists chose collage as their medium of choice, often using it to voice social and political issues.

Ruben Marroquin is a visual artist, textile designer, and weaving instructor. Throughout the years, he has gained skills in painting and textiles through various educational programs and international trips.

Steve Matrani, a Brooklyn-based mixed media artist, is inspired by modern and contemporary artists. The self-taught screen printer often incorporates the process into his art.

Oliver Peterson finds inspiration from graffiti, structural decay, literature, politics, history, religion, and personal experience. He enjoys experimenting with paint and patinas and has even applied random studio detritus to his compositions.

On Saturday, June 27th, guests are invited to meet the artists at Dodds and Eder Home during an opening reception, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dodds & Eder Home is located at 11 Bridge Street in Sag Harbor. For more information, call 631-725-1175 or visit www.doddsandeder.com.

Hampton Luxury Liner
Hampton Luxury Liner was started in 2000 as a more luxurious way to travel from NYC to the Hamptons and back. The clientele quickly grew and over the years Hampton Luxury liner became the preferred method of transportation to the Hamptons and NYC for many living in NYC and the Hamptons that wanted a comfortable and affordable way to travel back and forth. In 2009, HLL was taken over by Classic Coach and things with the liner didn’t change to much for years and the owner there changed the buses to Prevost as opposed to Mercedes Setra Top Class Coaches that have always been a signature of the liner.
