"Part of the meaning of the title of the show, Entitled, is that we are all entitled to like pretty art," said Sara Nightingale of Sara Nightingale Gallery. "Even if museums and galleries sometimes tell us otherwise." On Friday, March 20th at 6:45 p.m., the Water Mill-based gallery is hosting the opening reception for the new exhibit, Entitled.

The spontaneous salon style group show will feature works by Perry Burns, Cara Enteles, Steve Miller, Maggie Simonelli, Mike Solomon, Ross Watts, Gus Yero and Christa Maiwald, who was featured during a solo exhibit at Guild Hall in East Hampton last year.

"Christa Maiwald has been working on her Landscape Cake series for the past few years," noted Nightingale. "She makes edible sculptures (mostly cakes) and then takes them outside and photographs them in nature."

Maiwald celebrates a show opening by bringing a cake or two to each reception for the audience to enjoy. "The photograph is the document of the sculpture - so it's really like a performance where the cake is the performer, and all that remains after the "show" is the photograph," said Nightingale.

The exhibit will also include a triptych by Bill Pagano and Portland-based avrtist Kelly Neidig. "These are colorful, striped abstract landscapes and they are very upbeat and fun," Nightingale told Hamptons.com about Neidig's work. "So, the show is really about gratitude for the coming spring and is kind of a mood piece with a happy, floral vibe."

Entitled is on display through Monday, April 13th.
