With an abundance of new exhibits opening and the weather not quite warm enough for a day at the beach, May is a great month to explore new shows at North Fork and Hamptons galleries.

"North Fork Modernism," a solo exhibition by artist Colin Goldberg debuted on Friday, May 2, at The South Street Gallery (18 South Street, Greenport, 631-477-0021, thesouthstreetgallery.com). The show features "an exploration of dualities: East and West, traditional and digital, abstraction and figuration." Stop by the public reception on Saturday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Gallery to chat with Goldberg.

"Hail To The Beach: Paintings" by Dinah Maxwell Smith features contemporary impressionist paintings of landscapes, Long Island beach scenes, horses and dogs. Both will open on Saturday, May 10, and remain on view through Saturday, October 18.
