Amagansett - The works of three artists will be on view from July 21 to August 8, 2011.
Cynthia Sobel is showing a new group of abstract paintings, some of which were inspired by a trip to Kauai. The works, which are both watercolors and oils, reflect the Island's sunsets, waves and waterfalls. Cloud formations, especially the type called nacreous clouds, are currently a passion. She also finds inspiration in music. Favorites this year are the Mahler Symphonies. After a long career as a fashion designer, Sobel studied at the National Academy where she won many prizes. She is a long-time, part-time resident of Amagansett. She is also a member of the Wednesday Group, plein air painters of scenic locations around the East End.

Rolande Cicurel, award winning international artist, has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in New York City, Long Island, California, Florida and Costa Rica. She has received training at the Brera Academy (Milan, Italy), University of Manitoba (Canada) and the Art Students League in New York City. Her artistic influence comes from her environment, life experience, poetry and spiritual and mystic connections. She uses her subject matter as a point of departure to express her emotional responses and her inner vision. At present, Cicurel lives in East Hampton. She is represented in collections in the USA, Europe, Central and South America.
A former Broadway and television dancer, balletically trained by
Vladimir Dougoudousky and
Vera Nemchinova,
Marilyn Mendelson is now known for her dramatic story telling and celebration of life through the movement of the dancer. Her sculptures dance as she did and capture the essence of the dancer in motion. With the broadening of her artistic sensibility Mendelson has enlarged her body of work beyond the confines of realism. She adds a tribute to freedom as a guiding principle for interpreting the human form in various postures.
In addition to these three artists, the gallery will also display a group show by
Mark E. Zimmerman,
Andrea McCafferty,
Daniel Schoenheimer,
Bob Tucker,
Jim Hayden,
Jana Hayden,
Wilhelmina Howe,
Joanna Paitchell Lee and
Len Bernard.
Opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
