Southampton - Well known artists Joe Strand and Ric Globus will show new works entitled "Past-Futures" in an exhibition opening August 2 at No. Main Street Gallery (4 No. Main Street) in Southampton. There will be an opening reception held on Saturday, August 7, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Friends for more than 40 years, this exhibition represents the first time these artists have exhibited together in more than two decades. As indicated on their invitation "The 'Past-Futures' exhibition displays the works of two artists that have used parallel medias during the last four decades. Their friendship and mindsets have remained strong, honest and unwavering. . .showing their vision of what art will look like in our futures based upon their past associations and creativity."

"Parsley-Sage" by artist Joe Strand.

Globus, who describes himself as an "artist, photographer, inventor, and deep thinker," began his artistic career creating light shows in the 1960s, and with his two brothers created "The Museum of the Media" in the early 1970s.

Strand attended the Maryland Institute College of Art and Rhode Island School of Design. As one of the founders of the organization of Independent Artists in New York City, as well as the founder and member of the City Lights Works Project in New York City, Strand relays "I use recipes (drawing, painting, intalgio, washes), as well as my 'first' career as a sculptor focused on the Industrial Revolution, modern plastics and metallic colors to now create hand-painted and hand-rendered digital photographs."

The Globus Brothers created multi-media exhibitions for many U.S. government agencies, including the Department of Commerce, USIA, Department of Justice, National Bureau of Standards and others. During that period they were also commissioned to create exhibitions for the top museums in the U.S., including the Smithsonian Institution, Yale Art Museum, Herbert F. Johnson Museum, and The Walker Art Center.

Ric got involved in slit scan photography in the early 1970s, and helped invent the "servo-scan" camera which - with the aid of a computer - could not only take panoramic photography but create images of time. He became well known as both an artist and photographer with this one of a kind camera. Later he and his brothers invented the patented GlobuScope 360 camera. This camera became an international sensation and is still used today in all photographic mediums.

Opening Reception will be Saturday, August 7.

Strand's art is in permanent collections held by the Museum of the City of New York, the South Street Seaport Museum, the Baltimore Museum and the International Center of Photography. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and as a sculptor and lighting project organizer, he created color illuminations of the Brooklyn Bridge, Flatiron Building, numerous other New York City landmarks, and The White House.

Ric founded Globus Brothers Studios/Media Factory to market his artistic and photographic skills to corporations. The studios produce and create hundreds of photographs for all major magazines and corporations. He specializes in special effect imagery and motion photography.

Lately Ric has brought his skill and creativity to his artwork. "The School Daze" series in this exhibition according to Globus "Expresses [my] past experience in psychedelic in new expressionism while looking towards the future."

Strand states "By bringing the past to the present you can leap into the future, and take along for the ride the momentum you've created. For example, I've taken some of the familiar colors such as the purples of the '20s, oranges and yellows of the '50s, pinks from the '60s, combined with images from all the past decades, and brought them into the future with an artifical pop."

The exhibition will run through August 15. The Gallery will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 12 noon to 5 p.m., and by appointment by calling 631-566-0691, or 631-725-3965.
