Julie Andrews To Be Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award During 25th Annual Hamptons International Film Festival

This October, the Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF) will celebrate Oscar®-winning actress Julie Andrews as part of the 25th annual Hamptons International Film Festival. Andrews will be honored with HIFF’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The screen and stage legend made her Broadway debut in The Boy Friend in 1954, and followed that role up with My Fair Lady, playing Eliza Doolittle, and Camelot, playing Queen Guinevere. Over 100 million viewers saw Andrews dazzle in the 1957 premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s written-for-television musical Cinderella.

Her first feature film was Robert Stevenson’s Mary Poppins, which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for. Next, Andrews took on the iconic role of Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music, which earned her the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Since then, the actress has been featured in over 30 films. Her iconic career has earned Andrews several prestigious accolades, including multiple Golden Globes, Grammys, and Emmys, the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Disney Legend Award. She was also made a Dame by Queen Elizabeth II for services to the performing arts.

“Julie Andrews is a true icon and captured the hearts and imaginations of children and adults alike the moment she first appeared on screen in Mary Poppins,” said HIFF Co-Chairman Alec Baldwin. “Since then she has never ceased to amaze and stands as a true role model and inspiration.”

She is also a bestselling author of over 30 children’s books, and the first installment of Andrews’ autobiography, Home: A Memoir of My Early Years, was released in 2008. The actress is currently busy working on a follow up.

Additionally, Andrews just got done directing a hugely successful revival of My Fair Lady which is currently touring through Australia, and is the co-creator and star of Julie’s Greenroom, a newly released series on Netflix geared towards young children that covers theater and the arts.

“We are thrilled to honor Julie Andrews, whose incredible and diverse career speaks for itself,” said HIFF Executive Director Anne Chaisson. “We look forward to celebrating the milestone of our 25th anniversary, and welcoming back The Academy for this special celebration.”

On Saturday, October 7th, HIFF and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will co-present a special screening of Victor Victoria. The 1982 musical stars Andrews as Victoria Grant. It earned the Oscar for Original Song Score and Its Adaptation -or- Adaptation Score. Following the viewing, the iconic actress will participate in a post screening conversation with Baldwin and a special award presentation with special guests.

“We are proud to honor her at the festival and celebrate her incredible career,” Baldwin added.

The 25th annual Hamptons International Film Festival will take place over Columbus Day Weekend, Thursday, October 5 through Monday, October 9. Leading up to the Festival’s 25th anniversary, HIFF is presenting 25 Years: 25 Films, a celebration of feature films from each year of the Festival. Screenings will take place at top cultural organizations in the Hamptons, Palm Beach, New York City, and Los Angeles.
