The 24th annual Hamptons International Film Festival
) will pay tribute to three-time Academy Award®-nominated actor Edward Norton
with HIFF's prestigious Career Achievement Award. The actor, director, producer and activist began his career in the film industry over 20 years ago. Norton has had roles in many highly acclaimed pictures, including Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
- which screened at HIFF in 2014 and was nominated for nine Academy Awards and took home Best Picture, Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel
- which was also nominated for nine Academy Awards that year, David Fincher's cult classic, Fight Club, Spike Lee
's The 25th Hour
and many other memorable cinematic productions.
"Edward Norton is an incredibly accomplished actor and filmmaker, whose performances have been both iconic and award winning," explained HIFF Executive Director Anne Chaisson
. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to honor him this year at the Hamptons International Film Festival."
In 2015, Norton was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)
. He was also nominated in 1999 for Best Actor in a Leading Role for American History X
and 1997 for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Primal Fear.
Additionally, he was nominated for a Golden Globe
for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for Birdman
and won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture for Primal Fear.
Along with his impressive acting chops, Norton's lengthy resume also includes producing over ten productions, including The Painted Veil, Thanks for Sharing, Leaves of Grass, Lewis and Clark
and Keeping the Faith.
In the actor's latest project - David Frankel's Collateral Beauty
- he'll star alongside Will Smith
, Kate Winslet
, Keira Knightley
and Helen Mirren
. The film is expected in theaters December 2016.
In 2010, Norton teamed up with Jeffrey T. Wolfe, Robert Wolfe, and wife Shauna Robertson to found CrowdRise
. The website is considered to be the top fundraising site for charitable and personal causes, and has raised over $500 million since it was established.
Hamptons International Film Festival will celebrate Edward Norton with a festive dinner on Sunday, October 9th.
Additionally, HIFF has announced this year's Narrative, Documentary and Shorts features.
The Narrative Competition, presented by The Wall Street Journal,
will include the U.S. premiere of Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov's Glory,
Houda Benyamina's Divines,
and Andrea Testa and Francisco Márquez's The Long Night of Francisco Sanctis;
the North American premiere of Henrik Martin Dahlsbakken's Late Summer;
and the East Coast premiere of Simon Stone's The Daughter.
The Documentary Competition, presented by Investigation Discovery (ID) Films, will feature the North American premiere of Charlie Siskel's American Anarchist;
the New York premiere of Moritz Siebert, Estephan Wagner and Abou Bakar Sidibé's Those Who Jump,
Keith Maitland's Tower,
and Otto Bell's The Eagle Huntress;
as well as Dean Fleischer-Camp's Fraud.
Narrative Competition Short films, also presented by The Wall Street Journal,
will highlight the U.S. premiere of Ena Sendijarevic's Import,
Hamid Ahmadi's In the Hills,
Ali Asgari and Farnoosh Samadi's The Silence,
and Mounia Akl's Submarine;
and the New York premiere of Dianne Bellino's The Itching.
Documentary Competition Short films will screen the world premiere of Todd Douglas Miller's The Last Steps;
the U.S. premiere of Remo Scherrer's Whatever the Weather
; and the New York premiere of Leonor Teles's Batrachian's Ballad,
Maxim Pozdorovkin's Clínica de Migrantes: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness,
