This Week In Arts

Week Of October 12

The Keszler Gallery
The Keszler Gallery has opened a new gallery space in Manhattan at 984 Madison Avenue.

The South Street Gallery
The South Street Gallery is exhibiting new works by Simon Gaon, a New York Expressionist. He expands European Expressionism into a vital intense emotionally charged style that is "tied to New York, a place as urgent as the paint." In this show are paintings representing eight different New York series, including "Pizza Chef In a Window," "Times Square," "Hudson River," "East River," "Subway" and "Manhattan Bridge at Night." Gaon is represented in New York by Peter Findlay Gallery.

Vered Gallery
The Vered Gallery's newest exhibition, "Masters on Paper," will feature over 40 drawings, paintings and collages on paper by renowned Contemporary and Modern masters. Tamarind Art Council
"Ingots of Liquid Light" opened on October 13, at the Tamarind Art Council (142 East 39th Street, between Lexington and Third avenues in Manhattan). Featuring animations, oil on cell and digital prints by Kathy Smith, Stephen X. Arthur and Robin Bartholick, the exhibition will run through November 28, on Tuesdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The talented artists showcased in this exhibition explore the surreal landscape present within one's mind. Dreamlike mindscapes emerge when they deconstruct and reassemble imagery to evoke new impressions. Kathy Smith, Stephen X. Arthur and Robin Bartholick - all three artists communicate thru illusory works that focus on the processes of perception, cognition and how they relate through time. The subconscious moves to the forefront in Smith's work with her use of non-linear narratives and an abundance of bright colors. Arthur's animation also investigates the impressions found deep within one's mind by reworking some of Jack Shadbolt's most famous works into foreboding permutations. Even Bartholick's digital prints aim to make the viewer question the truth in the image in front of him as he blends elements from multiple photographs into his evocative yet elegantly composed pieces.
